Laptop Share

A Laptop Share pilot program is now available on Main Campus


Temple students will soon be able to borrow Dell Windows laptops using two automated Laptop Share Kiosks. Each kiosk will contain 12 laptops.


The Laptop Share kiosk locations are listed below. To borrow a power bank, swipe your OWLcard and log in with your AccessNet username and password.

Charles Library

  • 1st floor:
    - 1 kiosk on the near the East side entrance
    - 1 kiosk on the west side by the Lecture room
  • 2nd floor:
    - 1 kiosk on the north west side, behind the elevators, near the Automated Storage & Retrieval System (BookBot)
    - 1 kiosk on the east side
  • 3rd floor:
    - 1 kiosk on the east side, by the stairs
  • 4th floor:
    - 1 kiosk on the south east side

TECH Center

  • Second Floor Lobby
    - 1 kiosk near the Consultant Desk


  • Laptop Availability Website 
    Coming Soon: You will be able to use a website to view current laptop availability (for borrowing) and dock availability (for returning) a laptop. This website will be available soon.
  • Borrowing Period
    You can borrow up to one laptop at a time, for four hours.
  • Cost
    There is no cost for this service, provided you return the laptop within the four hour borrowing period (see Late Fines below).
  • Carrying the Laptop
    You are free to take the laptop with you around campus.
  • Personal Files
    Make sure to save your personal files to your cloud storage account (OWLbox, Google Drive or OneDrive) or flash drive. To delete your personal files from the laptop, make sure to restart or power off laptop before you return it. Note that your personal files will be deleted anytime the laptop restarts.
  • Return Process
    Before returning the laptop, make sure to delete your personal files by restarting or powering off the laptop. Note that your personal files will be deleted anytime the laptop restarts.
    Return the laptop to a kiosk in Charles Library or the TECH Center. Make sure to slide the laptop all the way in the slot until it locks in place. Then wait until a thank you message appears on the screen to confirm that the laptop is secured. Once the battery is recharged, the laptop will then be available again for borrowing.
  • Late Fees
    If you are late in returning a laptop, your account will be charged a fine:
    $10 for every hour that the laptop is late up to 24 hours. After 24 hours, you will be charged the cost of the laptop.
  • Liability and Responsibility
    You are responsible for the safety and condition of the equipment that you borrow. For more information, see the Borrower's Agreement.

Laptop Share Terms of Service

Temple University Information Technology Services is offering Laptop Share to all currently enrolled Temple University students. Laptop Share will allow students to borrow a laptop for a period up to four (4) hours from multiple kiosks throughout the Temple Main Campus. The current locations are Charles Library and the TECH Center.  

To use the Laptop Share program, I agree to abide by the following usage guidelines:

  • I can only borrow one laptop at a time. 
  • I must present a valid Temple University OWLCard.
  • I must never leave the laptop unattended.
  • I must return the laptop in the same working condition and good order in which I received it.
  • I must return the laptop to a kiosk within four hours, and place the laptop securely in the kiosk.
  • I must abide by the Temple University Technology Usage Policy.
  • I understand that I am financially responsible for the value of the laptop borrowed, up to a maximum of $2,100, if the laptop is late, damaged, lost or stolen. (See “Late Fines” and “Liabilities and Responsibilities” below.)
  • Failure to comply with these guidelines may also result in denial of current and future privileges for the Laptop Share Program.

Late Fines

If the guidelines above are followed, use of this Laptop Share Program is free. If I am late in returning the laptop, I will be subjected to the following fines:

  • $10.00 for up to 60 minutes late; and
  • $10.00 each 60 minutes or portion thereof late beyond the initial 60 minutes.
  • After 12 hours late, I will be billed for the replacement cost of the laptop and any installed software, up to a maximum of $2,100

Liabilities and Responsibilities

I assume all responsibility for the safety and condition of the laptop borrowed through the Laptop Share Program:

  • I will report any malfunctions and/or damage when returning the laptop.
  • I will report immediately, any laptop that appears damaged at time of checkout.
  • I am responsible for the costs of repair and/or replacement of the laptop that results from theft, loss, misuse, or neglect by myself or any other persons. My maximum liability for repair or replacement is two thousand, one hundred dollars ($2,100).
  • I also agree to pay any collection costs and/or attorney’s fees if I do not pay amounts owed by me when due.
  • I agree the University can place a hold upon my registration for classes and/or my graduation, restrict me from participating in the Laptop Share program, and withhold official transcripts and diplomas.
  • I am solely responsible for properly saving and copying my files to network resources provided by the University.  I do not hold the University responsible for any losses of data. I understand that the computer memory will be wiped after my use and all my work saved on the laptop will be lost. 
  • The University assumes no responsibility for the performance or functioning of these computers. I also understand that these are shared computers and that I should not save personal or confidential information on the hard drive or in any system that could be accessed by other users.  In the event my work, software, assignment, personally identifiable information or other materials are stolen, lost, deleted or corrupted, I acknowledge, that in consideration of participating in this free program, that I release and discharge Temple from any and all liability related to loss of any of my data.

  • What is Laptop Share?
    Laptop Share is a program for loaning laptops through an automated kiosk. The program allows students to borrow a laptop from one kiosk and return it to another. Please let us know what you think by sending email to or by completing the short survey when you return a laptop.
  • How long can I borrow a laptop?
    You can borrow a laptop for up to four hours. 
  • Is there a late fee and how much is it?
    Yes, there is a late fee of up to $10 per hour for every hour it is late. 
  • Where do I view my fees and how do I pay?
    Late fees are processed through the University Libraries. To view your fees, log in to your library account by going to and clicking My Library Account. To pay your fees, please visit the One Stop Assistance Desk at Charles Library.
  • What happens if I lose or damage the laptop?
    You are financially responsible for loss or damage. 
  • Do I have to sign an agreement form?
    Yes, at the kiosk when checking out a laptop. Click "I agree" after reviewing the agreement. 
  • What do I do if the Laptop is not functioning properly?
    Return the laptop to the kiosk. If returned within 15 minutes, you will be asked if there was a problem with the laptop. Please choose the answer that best describes the issue. Check out another laptop if available.
  • Can I return a laptop to a staff member?
    No, laptops must be returned to a kiosk, and inserted completely into an open bay. If a kiosk is full, you will have to bring it to the other kiosk to return it. If there is a problem with the kiosk, please talk to the staff at one those desks. 
  • Do you restrict where I can take the laptop?
    No, but you must return it within four hours. 
  • When I return the laptop, what happens to any data I have left on it?
    Before returning the laptop, make sure to delete your personal files by restarting or powering off the laptop. Note that your personal files will be deleted anytime the laptop restarts.
  • Other questions about costs and payment?
    Please settle fines $10 at the One Stop Assistance Desk at Charles Library prior to checking out another laptop. Accounts must be up-to-date and in good standing prior to check out. 
  • The library is closed. What should I do with the laptop?
    Bring the laptop to the kiosk in the lounge on the 2nd floor of the TECH Center, and insert it in an open bay. If there are any issues, please see a consultant at the Consultant Desk in the lab.
