P: Drive Migration to Microsoft OneDrive

Information Technology Services will be migrating the data stored on individual home drives (P:) to Microsoft OneDrive.

Overview

In an effort to make your files more easily accessible from off-campus, Information Technology Services will be migrating all P: Drive files to Microsoft OneDrive. 

OneDrive is a widely-used resource that comes with Microsoft 365 and enables you to easily access your files from anywhere, using a web browser, Windows or Mac app or mobile app. You will also be able to continue storing sensitive and confidential information, in the same manner as the P: Drive.

Possible Pre-Migration Steps

About a week prior to your migration, we will perform an initial scan of your files. If we find that there are files we cannot migrate, we notify you and list the files in your P: Drive in a file called your-AccessNet-username.txt (e.g., tua00000.txt).

If you would like to keep these files, please take the following actions prior to your migration day:

  • File or Folder Name Contains Invalid Characters
    Our automated process is unable to migrate file or folder names containing .lock, CON, or _vti_ or containing the following characters:
     
    " * : < > ? / \ |
     
    To keep these files or folders, please rename them or copy them to your computer. 
  • File Size Exceeds Limit
    Our automated process is only able to migrate files up to 100GB in size. For files that are larger, please copy them to your computer.

Tip: To save storage space, you may first want to compress the files or folders you are copying into a zip file. See instructions for Windows or Mac.

Access Your Files after the Migration

To access your files after the migration, go to portal.office.com and click OneDrive. The files will appear in a P Drive folder within your OneDrive account.
