Tech Bits: 3 Tips to Help You with PowerPoint Layout

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Tip 1: Duplicate your slide elements
Instead of copying and pasting, try duplicating. Hold down the Ctrl (PC) or Option (Mac) key while you click and drag an object.

Tip 2: Control the display order of your slide elements
If you have a number of elements layered on top of each other, use the Selection Pane to control the order in which they appear. Just click the Home tab and select Arrange > Selection Pane. The Selection Pane displays a list of your elements. Rearrange the layers by moving the elements up or down. You can also hide an element by clicking the eye icon.

Note: To use this feature on a Mac, you will need PowerPoint 2016 with the latest updates.

Tip 3: Line up your slide elements
Use guides and rulers to line up objects on your slide. To turn on these features, right-click anywhere on the slide outside of your elements. In the drop-down menu, select Ruler to display rulers along the top and side. Select Grid and Guides (PC) or Guides (Mac) and then Guides to add other vertical and horizontal layout lines. On the PC, you can also select Gridlines to display a layout grid across the slide.
