Access to University Buildings

Temple University is dedicated to maintaining an open access environment while restricting entry to certain facilities for faculty, staff, students, and authorized guests. This approach supports the university’s educational, research, and employment objectives within a safe and secure setting. All individuals accessing university facilities must be prepared to present valid identification upon request. Students, faculty, and staff are expected to display a valid OWLcard. To request and authorize access to specific facilities, complete the Building Access Request Form available on TUportal.

Requesting/Approving Access

Each school, college, department, and unit must designate an Access Coordinator to manage and review all access requests. If an individual’s access needs change, whether they are leaving the university, graduating or transitioning into another role, they must inform their Access Coordinator and make the necessary updates, including the return of keys or Access Control Devices (ACDs).

The employee's supervisor or Access Coordinator is responsible for ensuring timely updates to access permissions. As a reminder, Internal audits may review access privileges as part of departmental assessments and TUportal periodically indicates when it's time to review access reports. Access plans that are not regularly reviewed or do not comply with policy guidelines may be modified or revoked by the OWLcard administrator.
