Academic Technology

Meet our Academic Technology and Endpoint Engineering Team. This dynamic group oversees a wide range of critical functions including Academic Technology Management, TECH Center Operations, Classroom Technology Support, Endpoint Engineering, Labs, and campus-wide technology support.

As integral members of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team, we collaborate closely with the VPs, Provost staff, deans, schools, colleges, and departments to develop and implement visionary strategies for Academic Technology and Endpoint Engineering. Our responsibilities span university-wide academic applications, classroom technology support, training services, and comprehensive support for schools, colleges, and campus-wide technology needs.

In addition to our core responsibilities, we actively engage in various University Committees such as Assessment, Survey, Textbook Taskforce, IT Focus, and Pilot Groups, ensuring that our technology initiatives align with broader institutional goals and priorities. With a focus on innovation and collaboration, we are dedicated to enhancing the technological landscape of our academic community.

Applications and Data

Welcome to our Department of Application and Data Management! We are the central hub overseeing critical applications essential for university operations across various domains. Our duties include managing student services applications like admissions and financial aid and handling financial processes like accounting and purchasing. Additionally, we oversee HR functions and provide support to administrative offices across Schools and Colleges.

Within our department, we prioritize functional partnerships, maintaining close relationships with office leaders to facilitate software decisions and integrate various applications with our Banner ERP system and the university's data warehouse. We also specialize in custom application development, crafting tailored solutions and managing databases to ensure seamless operations.

Database management is a key aspect of our remit, encompassing the oversight of primary databases such as Oracle and SQL Server, as well as application servers for administrative applications. We ensure the smooth functioning of database systems to support the university's operations.

In addition to our core responsibilities, we maintain and upgrade the data warehouse and reporting tools, implement document management solutions, and support student recruitment activities through CRM software. Governance is integral to our role, as we manage access to data and documents, ensuring compliance with policies.

Business Operations

The Business Operations department serves as the administrative backbone of ITS, overseeing a spectrum of critical functions essential for the department's efficient operation. This organization is dedicated to being responsible for managing various administrative areas. This includes Human Resources management, covering recruitment, talent development pathways, timekeeping, team activities, and handling confidential matters such as HR FMLA and discipline-related issues.

Additionally, the department manages travel and expense processes, budgeting, finance, and contract management, centralizing software licensing and procurement for enterprise contracts. In line with the university's values, the department spearheads initiatives related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), sustainability, community support, and outreach. It also houses the Project Management Office to ensure the successful execution of projects, along with the Communications Team for effective internal and external communications.

Supporting technological initiatives, the department oversees facilities like OWLtech, Digital Equity Center, and the Computer Recycling Center, while integrating Apple repair services into the Technology Support Center (TSC). Ensuring smooth daily operations, the department manages central office space and facilitates seamless administrative tasks essential for the department's overall functioning.

Technology Support Services

Welcome to the Technology Support Services department, the frontline support for all Information Technology related needs across the campus community. Staffed by knowledgeable consultants and technical student workers, our Technology Support Center (TSC) aids via walk-ins, phone, live chat, email, TUhelp, remote access, or deskside office visits. From Microsoft Windows and MAC OS support to access account management, password resets, and Canvas assistance, we ensure seamless operation of essential IT services.

Our Technology Support Center (TSC) team is responsible for a comprehensive range of services, including transcript requests, Microsoft 365 support, remote access setup, and troubleshooting for various applications and systems such as Banner Enterprise Applications, network/wireless connectivity, and Genesys Call Center services. Additionally, the TSC team manages OWLcard Mobile, OWLcard physical cards, and mobile device management for iOS and Android devices.

In addition to TSC, our Endpoint Integration Support & Management (EISM) team offers deskside and remote support for a wide array of university constituents. From computer imaging and configuration to hardware and software troubleshooting, our EISM team ensures that university desktops and laptops remain in compliance, facilitating hardware lifecycle reporting and managing software updates and patches.

 We also play a crucial role in onboarding new employees, advising the university community on technological solutions, and providing IT and AV support for senior leadership events and after-hours support.

Furthermore, we specialize in department-specific application setup and configuration, collaborating with various departments such as Bursar, Athletics, and Facilities to meet their unique IT needs. Committed to excellence, our department operates across Main and HSC (Health Sciences Center) campuses, ensuring that Temple University remains at the forefront of technological innovation and support.

Infrastructure

From Public and Private Cloud Computing to Hosting and Storage Services, we provide comprehensive support to ensure seamless operations across various domains.

In our realm of expertise, we excel in Public Cloud Administration and Security, guaranteeing the integrity and safety of our cloud infrastructure. Simultaneously, we oversee Private Hyperconverged computer and storage, including Containerized Platforms, delivering scalable computing solutions finely tuned to specific requirements.

Our dedicated team manages Computer Object Management, diligently overseeing server lifecycle and configuration management while implementing robust server security measures. We handle Patching & Software Distribution Platforms like Satellite and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), ensuring the timely deployment of updates and the efficient monitoring of applications and infrastructure.

Collaborating closely with departments, we efficiently manage Inventory & Billing, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, and Cloud Productivity Suite, incorporating M365, Google Workspace, and ensuring the security of Email & Unstructured Data. Additionally, our focus on Data & Ransomware Protection, Distributed Computing, and Database management safeguards vital university data.

With expertise in storage solutions, including Network Attached and Cloud Storage Platforms, alongside robust authentication mechanisms such as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA/DUO), Single Sign-On, and meticulous Account Lifecycle Management, we guarantee secure access to university resources.

Moreover, our department prioritizes disaster recovery planning, testing, and strategy, alongside Solutions Architecture & Design, Identity & Access Management, and Lightweight Directory Management, ensuring the highest standards of security and efficiency across our technological landscape. Office of Information Security

Welcome to the Office of Information Security, where we are dedicated to safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our organization's data and systems. Our department is responsible for developing and implementing the information security strategy, aligned with our risk tolerance and organizational goals.

We assess security risks and vulnerabilities, develop risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations in collaboration with the Privacy Officer. Our focus on establishing and maintaining a robust security architecture involves designing systems, policies, and technologies to protect our IT and business assets from threats.

We oversee security awareness and training programs, manage incident response plans, and monitor day-to-day security operations including threat detection and incident handling. Evaluating and managing security risks associated with third-party vendors and partners, enforcing security policies, standards, and procedures throughout the organization are integral parts of our role.

We continuously evaluate emerging security tools and technologies to enhance our overall security posture and manage the budget for our information security program, allocating resources for security initiatives. Providing regular updates to the leadership team and collaborating closely with other departments ensures alignment of security initiatives with overall business goals.

IT Professional Services

Welcome to our department, where we oversee Project Management, Service Management, Communications, and Digital Accessibility initiatives to ensure the effective delivery of IT services aligned with organizational goals and objectives. In Project Management, we facilitate the intake of IT project requests, evaluating proposals and providing regular updates to key stakeholders and leadership to ensure alignment with organizational priorities. Our Service Management team manages the IT service catalog, ensuring accuracy and periodic evaluation to enhance service quality. We collaborate to maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and uphold service standards across the organization.

Strategic Communications is integral to our operations, where we develop and execute comprehensive internal IT communication strategies, disseminating vital information on training, system changes, and new applications while effectively marketing internal IT offerings to stakeholders. Digital Accessibility is a cornerstone of our efforts, where we lead the university's Accessible Technology Initiative, evaluating and documenting accessibility for software and systems, overseeing accessibility web scanning solutions, and coordinating initiatives prioritized by the Accessible Technology Compliance Committee (ATCC).

In addition to our core responsibilities, we foster partnerships with various university departments to reinforce collaboration on IT projects and services. We define and enhance procedures for project intake, prioritization, and service delivery, implementing Quality Assurance (QA) processes to continually monitor and improve service quality. Furthermore, we manage application and vendor relationships for essential tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Acrobat Sign, eSignature solutions, and platforms like Webcheckout, Concept3d, OpenProject, Qualtrics, and Slack. Our dedication to excellence ensures that IT services meet the evolving needs of our organization and contribute to its overall success.

Strategy Technology Planning

Welcome to the Strategy Technology Planning Department, where we cultivate a culture of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration within ITS, addressing challenges at the university scale. Our focus encompasses technology innovation, promotion, and coordination, along with incubating new services and architectural patterns tailored for university-scale operations.

We actively foster communities of developers, architects, and policy makers to facilitate cross-team and cross-university collaboration, lending technical expertise to projects through our Infrastructure Engineering team. With a strong emphasis on service architecture, development, and security, we prioritize service cost containment, performance, and availability to ensure optimal outcomes.

Through strategic planning and proactive initiatives, we are committed to advancing technology capabilities at the university scale, fostering innovation, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of our services to support the mission of the institution.

Web, Media, and User Experience

Welcome to the User Experience and Digital Platforms Department, where we drive the strategic development, management, and enhancement of our web technology platforms, Content Management System (CMS), and internal portal. As leaders in this domain, we shape and oversee the university's digital presence and collaboration technologies, ensuring an exceptional user experience for students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

Collaborating closely with Temple’s Strategic Marketing team and all School/College/Unit content developers, we create a seamless, innovative, and user-centric online environment aligned with the university's mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Our key responsibilities include defining and implementing the technology strategy for user experience and digital platform development, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives. We lead the design, development, and maintenance of the web platform, CMS, and internal portal, driving continuous improvement and innovation in user experience and performance.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, marketing, and engineering, is central to our operations, ensuring the delivery of user-centric digital solutions. We establish and communicate a clear vision for the future of web collaboration and user experience, managing the selection, implementation, and optimization of technology tools and platforms to support our digital infrastructure.

Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics, we track the effectiveness and performance of the digital platform while ensuring adherence to industry best practices, standards, and compliance requirements. Working closely with the Strategic Marketing team, we ensure alignment of university websites with brand and marketing strategies, while promoting and ensuring compliance with web accessibility standards to make digital content inclusive to all users.

Additionally, we oversee the development, maintenance, and optimization of the university's web portal, performing testing and troubleshooting of portal and web application issues reported by end users. Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to create an engaging, accessible, and user-friendly digital environment that enhances the overall experience of our university community.
